Aesculus The Buckeye Mala® originated from a desire to live a more fulfilled life and a need to be reminded what it takes to achieve it. We knew what it meant to dream big, but wanted something tangible to guide us through the small moments required to bring it to life. We trusted in the simplest act of comfort to tell us what we needed to create: a hand to the heart, fingertips to the chest, the neckline is a space seldom remembered as the centrality of our life, our breathing, and our existing.

CEO & Designer, Devika Lynn Carr, Esq., believes seeking inspiration, not happiness, leads to achieving lifelong fulfillment. Raising 4 exceptional children, including one neurodiverent, she is constantly looking for creative ways to celebrate every person’s exceptionalities, choosing to tell inspirational stories about every moment’s meaning. She completed her undergraduate degree at The Ohio State University, double-majoring in criminology and sociology while competing nationally as a collegiate cheerleader for The All-Girl Competitive Cheerleading Team. She is also a two-time graduate of Nova Southeastern University, with a master’s degree in criminal justice and legal perspectives and a juris doctorate of law degree. Her range of roles in service to self and others includes being a wife, mother, artist, writer, lawyer, and Law and Society Scholars Program Manager/Pre-Law Advisor for first and second-year undergraduate students at Ohio State.
Naming Aesculus The Buckeye Mala®
"Aesculus glabra" is the scientific name for a tree species known as Ohio Buckeye. As the chosen "guru bead" in our design, the buckeye nut serves the greater purpose of reminding wearers to mindfully observe levels of diversity experienced by all, and how humanity is best served through awareness, understanding, and acceptance. Aesculus The Buckeye Mala® serves as a reminder of how deep connections lead to beautiful memories that were once only possibilities desired to be achieved.
